Workspaces - create a supplemental workspace

 Setting Up a Supplemental Workspace

Many Units use a Roadway workspace or a Location and Surveys workspace but have additional files that need to be appended that are specific to their work. Examples would be cell libraries, set files, macros, etc. This can be accomplished by setting up a supplemental workspace that contains these additional files.

1. Open the Update Workspace application from C:\Program Files\Update Workspace. Double click the UpdateWS.exe. Click in the box next to TEMPLATE_STDS, then click the UPDATE button. If you do not have the update workspace executable, you may obtain it from the NCDOT web site. Go to http://www.ncdot/com/cadd then click on NCDOT, then WORKSPACES, then Download UpdateWS program in a .zip format. Turn on the Use Folder Names option and unzip to C: drive.

2. Rename TEMPLATE_STDS to "Name_Stds" where Name is your Division name. (Example: Division9_Stds). Copy any files from your existing workspace that are not duplicated in any other workspaces to the proper directories.

3. You will then set the following system environment variable: SUPPLEMENTAL_STDS = C:\NCDOT_V8_WORKSPACE\"NAME"_STDS where "NAME" is the template name just created.

4. Edit the SupplementalCfg.dat file (found in the Template_Stds folder) adding variables that append to your new workspace. For example, the following variables may be set:

MS__CELL < $(SUPPLEMENTAL_STDS)/$(_USTN_PROJECTNAME)/CELL
MS_CELLLIST < $(SUPPLEMENTAL_STDS)/$(_USTN_PROJECTNAME)/CELL/*.CEL
MS_MDL < $(SUPPLEMENTAL_STDS)/STANDARDS/MDLAPPS/

NOTE : Do not modify anything in the block at the top of this file. These lines control the inclusion of additional Iplot settings files.

When MicroStation is opened, the files that are appended in the supplemental configuration file will be available.

This will allow the users to update the Roadway or Location workspace without effecting the supplemental workspace. This will prevent the need to copy files from one workspace to another

Make Sure to REBOOT The Machine for Environmental Variables Changes to take effect !!! ..
