Roberto Canales - Deputy Secretary for Transit

Roberto Canales, P.E. is the Deputy Secretary for Transit for the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and is responsible for the department's four multimodal divisions: Aviation Division, Ferry Division, Public Transportation Division and the Rail Division. Mr. Canales received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the North Carolina State University, and is a registered Professional Engineer with the State of North Carolina.

In l984, he joined the NCDOT and has held a variety of positions in Traffic Engineering, specifically addressing highway safety and highway efficiency initiatives. Mr. Canales has led NCDOT's initiative in the creation of Intelligent Transportation Systems, and served as Branch Manager of the Construction and Materials Branch prior to creating the enhanced functions of the Contractual Services Unit where he served as the Unit Head.
