Daniel DeVane - Chief Deputy Secretary

Appointed Chief Deputy Secretary in October 2003, Dan DeVane serves as the department's Chief Operating Officer, supporting Secretary Tippett's transportation agenda and managing the department's daily operations. He also oversees Human Resources. From 1994-2003, DeVane served the department as Deputy Secretary for Human Resources and Intergovernmental Affairs and also as a Legislative Liaison.

Prior to joining the department, DeVane served as a member of the N.C. House of Representatives for eleven years and a Hoke County Commissioner for six years. He also served as Chairman of the Region N Council of Governments. He is a former member of the National Guard and a retired volunteer fireman.
