Katherine White returned to the N.C. Department of Transportation in 2009 as General Counsel after a 20-year absence. She began her law career in North Carolina as an assistant attorney general for NCDOT and left for private practice in 1989. Prior to her return, she served as a policy advisor to the N.C. Office of Information Technology Services where she researched and developed statewide policies and standards for the state computer network.
As General Counsel at NCDOT, she reports to the Secretary and advises him and the staff on a broad range of legal issues.
White graduated from Goucher College in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and the University of Maryland School of Law in 1976. She is licensed to practice law in Maryland and North Carolina.
White also has experience in the field of journalism. She worked as a reporter for The Sun in Baltimore and The Charlotte Observer.
