Mission
To provide the Department with independent and
objective audits not covered by the Internal Audit
Section.
Objectives/Functions
- Telecommunications Audits are conducted annually
by this section on all DOT divisions/branches/units
statewide. The objectives of the audit include
verifying that the unit is in compliance with
Departmental Telecommunications Policy and assisting
the unit in designing a cost effective audit
plan to control the telecommunications resources.
- These audits involve auditing the telephone
service expenditures incurred by the unit, assessing
the unit's internal controls, and identifying
employee abuse, misuse and billing errors. All
findings are documented in working papers and
a report is prepared summarizing the unit's
overall compliance, strengths and weaknesses,
and recommendations for corrective action.
- Reviews of cellular phone invoices are conducted
at random on DOT divisions/branches/units. The
cellular phone invoices are examined with the
same internal controls measures as the Telecommunication
Service Invoices.
