Prequalification of prime contractors is required in order to place bids on Department centrally-let projects (projects that are statewide, but are let out of Raleigh). Once prequalified, firms must requalify every three (3) years, but must also renew their status annually. The purpose of the annual renewal is to make sure the Department has a current Safety Index and a Non-Collusion Affidavit and Debarment Certification on file.

Once your firm is approved, you will show up in the Department's Directory of Transportation Firms as a "Bidder". Firm's that are prequalified as bidders or prime contractors may also perform work on Department projects as a subcontractor. You can access the Directory of Transportation Firms by clicking on Contractor Directory under Navigation to the left.

All applications for prequalification (1st time, renewals, and requalifications) can now be completed online, in lieu submitting a paper application. In order to complete the application online, please go to the following website:

However, it is recommended that you try to use the Online Prequalification System prior to downloading and submitting the paper application.
