Emissions Inspection
Upon your move to North Carolina, as part of the vehicle registration process you will need to
have your vehicle inspected. Dependent upon which county you move to this inspection may include
an emissions inspection. Once a license plate is issued, the owner has 10 days to
have the vehicle inspected in North Carolina.
Effective July 1, 2002, all 1996 and newer gasoline-powered vehicles registered in an emissions
county are required to receive the On Board Diagnostics(OBD II) emissions test. For further information

Emissions Inspection Fees:
If you live in an Emissions County the total cost of an emissions inspection can range from $6.50 to $30.00.
