What do I do with my renewal?

In order to renew your vehicle's registration you must:

• Submit a renewal application.
  
  
• Pay the appropriate registration fee.
  
  
• Vehicle must have a current North Carolina inspection prior to renewal.

Your insurance company name and policy number are preprinted on your renewal form. If your insurance company name and policy number are not shown, enter the insurance company name and policy number as it appears on your policy.

Upon payment of the appropriate fee the DMV will issue license plate stickers to indicate the new period of valid registration.

Renewals can be returned to the DMV in several ways:

• Visit any local DMV Vehicle and License Plate Renewal Office
  
  
• Use our online service for Registration Renewal
  
  
• Write to us and include $1.00 for postage. Send your renewal and fee to:

Never received your renewal registration?

If you never received your renewal card and your vehicle has a current inspection you can:

• Renew your plate online through our Registration Renewal Service. You will need your license plate number and the last five digits of your title number. That may be obtained from your previous registration.
  
  
• Go to your local Vehicle and License Plate Renewal Office with your plate number and insurance information. They will issue a new plate and/or sticker if there are no outstanding registration blocks (tax, insurance, child support, etc).
  
  
• or Call 919-715-7000 and request a registration renewal card to be mailed to you.
  
  
• Vehicle must have a current North Carolina Inspection prior to renewal.
