The Roadside Environmental Department is responsible for managing the vegetation along the roadsides in Anson, Cabarrus, Mecklenburg, Stanly and Union Counties. They also plant and maintain the wildflower and daylily beds within those counties. They are responsible for maintaining over 120 acres of ornamental plantings including trees. The Roadside Environmental Department oversees the maintenance of the Rest Areas on I-85 in Cabarrus County and the NC Welcome Center on I-77 just South of Charlotte, NC.
