| Locations
for Wheel Chair Ramps, Crosswalks, and Stop Bars can be confusing. Typical
construction dictates that we place wheel chair ramps prior to placing
crosswalks, and stop bars. However, this can lead to errors. Since, the
locations of the wheel chair ramps on the plans are approximate, wheel
chair ramps should be based on the location of the stop bar and the crosswalk.
The location of the stop bar is based on and critical to the geometrics of the Signal Design. If the stop bar is too close to the signal, then the driver may not be able to see the signal head, if the bar is too far back, the signal timing may not work. Therefore it is imperative that we locate the exact location of the stop bar, and the crosswalk before we place wheel chair ramps. |
