In the past, the contract line item, Construction Surveying was included in a contract at the Division's request. Beginning with the November, 2001 letting, all projects designed by the Highway Design Branch will include the contract line item, Construction Surveying, unless the Division has requested that the item not be included.

The first opportunity to exclude Construction Surveying from the contract will be at the Final Field Inspection. The questionnaire includes the question "Will the construction surveying on this project be handled by the Department or the Contractor?" If it is shown that construction surveying will be performed by the Department, the contract item, Construction Surveying will not be included in the contract.

Construction Surveying may also be excluded from the contract by contacting the State Contract Engineer either by e-mail or telephone and requesting that Construction Surveying not be included as a contract line item for the subject project. Notification must be received on or before the Review Date noted on the 12-Month Let List for the subject letting.

For projects designed by the Division, the Division should determine when to include Construction Surveying and provide the information to Design Services as part of the package for advertisement.
