The Standard Specification provides that partial payments will be based upon progress estimates prepared by the Engineer at least once each month. Payment is normally made when a measurable portion of the work is completed. Construction of Reinforced Concrete Deck Slab requires the work to be performed in phases, including forming, placement of reinforcing steel and placement of concrete. The phases of work require different trade skills and are often completed by different subcontractors.

At the Resident Engineer’s discretion, payment can be made after one or more phases of a reinforced contract deck slab are complete. For typical reinforced contract deck slab, the following partial payment schedule is recommended:

5% - SIP metal decking installed
5% - Overhang installed
30% - Reinforcing steel 100% installed and tied

Therefore, on a span using metal decking, the overhangs completed and reinforcing steel placed and tied, payment would be 40% with the remaining 60% paid when concrete is cast.

On precast concrete deck panel spans, the percentages would be as follows:

20% - Precast concrete deck panels installed
5% - Overhang installed
15% - Reinforcing steel installed and tied

This would result in 40% being paid if a precast panel span was ready to cast. The remaining 60% would be paid when the concrete is cast.
