When pumping is utilized in the placement of concrete, the following guidelines should be observed:

  1. A minimum of three technicians should be present at the pour. They should be used for the following:

    1. Observing concrete placement, depths, finishing, straight edging, curing, etc.
    2.
    3. Documentation of batch tickets, frequency of tests, and assistance of testing.
    4.
    5. Testing of concrete at the truck and the pump discharge. Drilled shaft mixes will only be tested at the truck.
    6.
    7. On the first load, the technician should run a chase, pot, and slump from the truck after the contractor adjusts the water. At the pump discharge, before vibration, the technician should obtain a sample and run the same tests and check for correlation of losses. The technician should run additional correlation tests at cylinder time or if the pump boom angle changes significantly.
  1. Sample mix used for cylinders and minimum acceptance testing must be obtained from the pump discharge. However; once a correlation is developed, the concrete pour should be allowed to continue based on tests performed at the truck.
  2. Rejection of concrete by the Department must be based on samples obtained from the pump discharge.
