The following process specifics will help to insure submittal packages for items related to the installation of traffic signals are addressed in a timely and appropriate manner within the Traffic Engineering and Safety Systems Branch.

Address all submittals of all items related to traffic signals, including those items used on computerized signal systems and ITS projects as follows:

NC Department of Transportation

Traffic Engineering and Safety Systems Branch

CS# 51-31-40

The paperwork, review and processing associated with these submittals can be significantly reduced by utilizing the Qualified Products List submittal process, in lieu of submitting catalog cuts. Please encourage the Contractor to utilize this preferred method for submittals when possible.

Note: Beginning with the January 2002 Letting, the specifications for traffic signals will be included in the Standard Specifications for Roads and Structures. The Contractor will be required to furnish all standard items specified in the new Standards Book and those items must be pre-approved and on the Qualified Products List at the date of the advertisement.

The Traffic Engineering and Systems Branch is developing a process by which pre-approved items could be transmitted by email to the reviewing Unit with a copy to the Resident Engineer. Information on this new process will be transmitted upon completion of the process at a later date.
