The State Road Maintenance Unit conducts technical training for all maintenance employees. Since the different levels have specific training needs, the training has been broken into 3 levels: Transportation Workers, Transportation Supervisors, and Transportation Engineers.
Most of the training for the Transportation Workers comes through the Skill Based Pay Program, but specific "How to" types of training revolving around daily maintenance operations are also taught.
These individuals are the Department's first line maintenance supervisors who must make daily operational and management decisions. This group's technical training needs consist of specific "How to" type training, management training and procedural training.
Field Engineers involved in our maintenance operations can be divided into two groups. The County Maintenance Engineers manage day to day operations of a County Maintenance Yard and the District and Assistant District Engineers manage the functions of a District Office. These varied job assignments translate into many different courses on daily operations, management training and procedural training.
