1988 - 2004
North Carolina Adopt-A-Highway Is In Its 16th Year!

Adopt-A-Highway Groups Receive 10- and 15-year Stars

This year marks the 16th anniversary of the North Carolina Adopt-A-Highway (AAH) program. All the AAH volunteers have made a significant contribution to preserving the beauty and cleanliness of North Carolina's roadsides. NC is proud to have so many of its citizens involved in making North Carolina a better place to live.

Currently, there are some 6,000 AAH groups. This year North Carolina is saluting AAH groups that began in 1989. During their 15 years of continuous and consecutive service, 1989 - 2004, they have kept their adopted roadway segments litter free. NC is awarding each of these groups two green metallic stars for their roadside signs. Each star has a "15" in the center as special recognition of their 15 years as active AAH volunteers.

NC is also recognizing the AAH groups that have given 10 consecutive years of service, 1994 - 2004. Each of the 10-year groups will receive a plaque in appreciation of their efforts, as well as two green metallic stars for placement on their roadside signs. Each of these stars has a "10" in the center signifying 10 years of continuous service.
