The key responsibilities of this group are to:
provide technical support on environmental issues;
review environmental programs; evaluate environmental
regulations; identify environmental training needs;
and provide environmental leadership and stewardship.
- Technical support is provided to the State
Environmental Operations Engineer, Division Environmental
Officers, Field Operation Engineers and other
NCDOT personnel on environmental issues. Environmental
issues can range from interpretation of regulatory
policy to field implementation practices.
- Environmental programs are reviewed in order
to evaluate environmental initiatives for effectiveness
and act as a liaison to regulatory agencies during
program development and implementation.
- Environmental regulations are reviewed in order
to evaluate current and proposed regulations and
determine their impact on NCDOT operations. This
process is an important planning tool and helps
NCDOT prepare the necessary funding and manpower
to properly address the regulation.
- Identification of training needs result in
the implementation of training programs to help
staff acquire environmental expertise.
- Providing environmental stewardship leadership
enables ethical and proactive approaches in addressing
environmental issues to be explored and developed.
