The Metals Subsection is responsible for the shop inspection of structural steel, epoxy coated rebar, metal bridge rails and joints, and gray iron castings. This subsection is also responsible for the qualification of welding operators and welding electrodes and advises the Resident Engineer’s personnel on welding issues that arise on the project.

In addition, the Metals Subsection is responsible for inspecting the fabrication of signs, sign supports, and high mast standards. The Sign Inspectors also perform both daytime and nighttime inspections of these items with the Resident Engineer’s inspectors once they are installed on the project.
