The goal of Value Engineering (VE) Group is to achieve design excellence. Its objectives are to improve quality,
minimize total ownership cost, reduce construction time, make the project easier to construct,
insure safe operations, and assure environmental and ecological goals. The VE Team is looking for the
optimum blend of scheduling, performance, constructability, maintainability, environmental awareness, safety,
and cost consciousness.
The Value Engineering staff manages three areas where the Department may realize beneficial improvements:
- -- perform pre-construction VE Design Studies utilizing all engineering disciplines in the
investigation of project designs before construction letting.
- -- coordinate and manage the participation of the construction contractor's submittal of
beneficial VE Change Proposals after project letting.
- -- provide Management Studies as requested and documents and reports on cost reduction
and improvements for Preconstruction.
Value Engineering is beneficial by balancing the project cost with the project function.
