Aerial mosaics are digital, raster images of individual aerial photographs mosaicked together to form a continuous composite picture. No ground control is set for this product. Images are geo-referenced using the Global Positioning System (GPS) and an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) to determine the position and orientation of the aerial camera for each exposure. Image distortion due to ground relief is minimized by using an available existing Digital Elevation Model (DEM).

Typical pixel resolutions are
0.5 foot, 1.0 foot, and 2.0 feet with recommended plotting scales of 1 inch = 100 feet,
1 inch = 200 feet, and
1 inch = 400 feet.

Aerial mosaics are typically used for planning, functional design, and environmental document preparation for transportation projects.

Aerial mosaics with an associated X, Y coordinate system are delivered to the customer.
