Orthophotography are digital raster images of individual aerial photographs joined together to form a continuous composite picture. Ground control is set for this product. Aerotriangulation is performed to determine the position and orientation of the camera for each exposure so ground features are shown in their true relative coordinate position. Image distortion due to ground relief is corrected by collecting a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) or augmenting an exisiting DEM with limited breaklines.

Typical pixel resolutions are 0.5 foot, 1.0 foot, and 2.0 feet with recommended plotting scales of 1 inch = 100 feet,
1 inch = 200 feet, and 1 inch = 400 feet.

Orthophotography is used for planning, functional design, and preliminary design of transportation projects.

Orthophotography with an associated X, Y coordinate system and the DEM with limited breaklines are delivered to the customer. Vector data showing drainage features is also collected and delivered.
