| SUBJECT: | CONTINUOUS HIGH CHAIR UPPERS IN THE TOP SLAB OF CULVERTS |
At the request of the Construction Unit, and to provide support for A1 bars, modifications have been made to barrel cells for various single barrel culverts.
For single barrel culverts with a vertical clearance of 8'-0" (2.54m) or less, continuous high chair uppers (CHCU) have been added to support the A1 bars as shown in the attached example. Detail the height of this CHCU as it applies to each project.
This policy is effective as soon as is practicable, but no later than the August 2001 letting. The Structure Design Cell Library has already been updated and the Design Manual will be updated at a later date.
