| SUBJECT: | SPT FOR DRILLED PIERS |
In the event that a Standard Penetration Test (SPT) is required for drilled piers by the Foundation Recommendations, a special pay item, paid for per each, shall be added to the Total Bill of Material. The following note shall be placed on the plans:
SPT Testing is required to determine the tip bearing capacity of the drilled piers at Bent No. ____ (and Bent No. ____ ). See Drilled Piers Special Provision.
If a SPT is not required for drilled piers, place the following note on the plans:
SPT Testing is not required to determine the tip bearing capacity of the drilled piers.
This policy is effective with the July 2000 letting. The Design Manual and Project Special Provisions will be revised at a later date.
