MEMORANDUM TO: Project Engineers
Project Design Engineers
FROM: T. V. Rountree, P. E.
State Bridge Design Engineer
DATE: September 15,2000
SUBJECT: NEEDLE BEAM FALSEWORK

Generally, needle beam overhang falsework is not required for bridge deck pours. Unless needle beam supports are deemed necessary, place the following note on the General Drawing of all prestressed concrete girder and structural steel bridges:

Needle beams will not be allowed unless otherwise called for on the plans or approved by the Engineer.

This note is not required for cored slab bridges.

For structures on heavy skews, continue to consult with Mr. Paul Lambert to determine whether needle beam supports will be necessary. If needle beams are required, denote these locations on the plans.

This policy is effective immediately. Those projects in the October and November lettings will be revised by Mr. John Frye’s group to reflect this policy.
