MEMORANDUM TO: Project Engineers
Project Design Engineers
FROM: T. V. Rountree, P. E.
State Bridge Design Engineer
DATE: November 2, 2000
SUBJECT: ARMORED EVAZOTE JOINT STANDARDS

The Armored Evazote Joint Standard Drawings AEJ1(SM) have been revised and are attached for your use. To eliminate working drawing submittals for these joints, the notes have been revised to specify the minimum and maximum length of anchor assemblies and a Bill of Material has been added.

The quantity of elastomeric concrete and total length of angle should be shown per each bent. The elastomeric concrete quantity, to the nearest 0.1 ft3 (0.001 m3), should be calculated using the length along the joint from gutter to gutter and the minimum cross sectional area shown on the plans. Calculate the angle length taking the superelevation into effect, to the nearest inch (0.01 m), and include both sides of the joint in the Bill of Material quantities. To aid construction of this joint, the angle size has been reduced and the slot width has been increased.

This policy is effective with the March 2001 letting. The revised standards are available through the SDD1 directories and the Structure Design Homepage. The Design Manual and Project Special Provisions will be revised at a later date.
