Description: I-40 - ROCKSLIDE Location: I-40 in Western North Carolina, close to the Tennessee border.
Item(s) of Interest: Site of emergency road repairs, which were necessitated by a hurricane induced roadway side-slope failure. Road repairs included a Permanent soil nail wall to stabilize the roadway top of slope, and an innovative toe of slope protection utilizing boulders, rock anchors and ring netting.
Observations and Points of Discussion:
Roadway side slope stabilization repairs were in progress.
Repairs utilized drilled shafts with timber lagging and a permanent concrete wall facing.
