Topsail Area Comprehensive Transportation Plan Study

The Transportation Branch of the North Carolina Department of Transportation, in cooperation with the local municipal governments in the Topsail Area, the Cape Fear RPO and the Down East RPO is developing a transportation plan for the area. The transportation plan is a long-range plan that identifies major transportation improvements that will be needed over the next 30 years. A Goals and Objectives Survey was completed and the results are below. Future projections have been completed, and the last steering committee meeting held June of 2008, agreement from the committee was gathered on capacity deficiencies.

We will be asking for consensus from local officials on these deficiencies at their meetings this summer. The scheduled meetings are listed below..

August 5, 2008 at 7pm, Surf City Town Council Meeting
August 7, 2008 at 7pm, North Topsail Beach Town Council Meeting
August 12, 2008 at 7:30pm, Holly Ridge Town Council Meeting
August 13, 2008 at 7pm, Topsail Beach Town Council Meeting
August 18, 2008 at 7pm, Onslow County Commissioners Meeting

Currently, work on recommendations is being conducted between the steering committee, local planning staff and NCDOT. Recommendations will be completed and available for public comment later this year. The scheduled meetings with local Planning Boards are listed below.

Steering committee meetings are open to the public and the next two meetings are scheduled for July 22, 2008 and August 26, 2008. Both meetings are held at 10:30am in the Surf City Town Hall.
