Harnett County Comprehensive Transportation Plan Study

In September 2006, the Transportation Planning Branch of NCDOT initiated a Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP) Study for Harnett County. The plan is a cooperative effort between Harnett County, Lillington, Coats, Dunn, Erwin, Angier, Mid-Carolina Rural Planning Organization, the Fayetteville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (FAMPO), the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), Fort Bragg, and Campbell University. These organizations comprise the CTP team. This plan will serve to address present and anticipated transportation needs within the county.

Meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month at the Harnett County Public Library in Lillington at 9:30am . All meetings are open to the public.

The accomplishments of the CTP team include developing a Vision and Goals statement, Network Roads, the Public Participation Plan and the Goals and Objectives Survey. The CTP Team has developed the Capacity Deficiency Maps for 2007 and 2035 and will present this information to the local officials for their endorsement in July and August. The CTP Team will use this information to assist in development of highway recommendations throughout the county.

A sub-committee has been formed to look at recommendations for bicycle and pedestrian facilities across the county. The committee consists of Steven Nueschafer (Dunn), Samantha Ficzko (Harnett County Planning), Joel Strickland (Mid-Carolina RPO), Maurizia Chapman (Fayetteville Area MPO), and Charles Young (Fort Bragg).

Additional materials, agendas, and minutes will be included on this website throughout the development of the plan. Please check back for updates and for any information or questions that you may have.

Currently roadway, environmental, travel demand model, and economic data is being collected.
