- 68% of all “Lane Departure” related fatalities are unbelted
- 74% of all “Keeping Drivers Alert” related fatalities are unbelted
- 70% of all “Speed” related fatalities are unbelted

| Eliminating Safety Belt Exemptions and Increasing Penalties for Non-Compliance |
| Description: |
This strategy will strengthen existing safety belt laws in the state. The highlights include: 1) Mandating safety belt usage for all vehicles except those exempted by Federal Standards, 2) Mandating safety belt usage for all seating positions in a vehicle and 3) Increasing fines for non-compliance from $25 per violation to $50 per violation. |
