In the late 1990's various units were producing visualization products. These projects were being created by a few innovative individuals with an interest in the technology, but without the necessary resources. As these resources were requested, a need was recognized. In the year 2000 the Enterprise Visualization group was created in an effort to meet this need. We have provided services for many areas of NCDOT including Transit, Division of Highways, Division of Motor Vehicles and the Attorney General's Office.

The group was originally staffed in the Engineering Application Services Section of Information Technology alongside CADD Services. In 2007, Enterprise Visualization was grouped with other product development teams within the IT Branch to form the Information, Mapping, and Graphics Unit. As part of the ongoing NCDOT Organization Realignment, two of the three groups which comprised the IMG Unit became a part of the Asset Management Division. We remain in IT as a part of Engineering Transportation Systems.

It is our goal to provide a quality service to all units within NCDOT. This goal can only be met by a continuous and focused effort to stay current with the hardware, software and knowledge of visualization technology. The technology of visualization at NCDOT is still a relatively new field. It is a field that is developing and growing at a very rapid pace. We are excited about the future and look forward to working with you.
