The Call Process
UPDATE:
An Enhancement Call for Projects will NOT be held in 2008 during
the ongoing transformation of the Department of Transportation
and its budget priorities. The Department is currently
reviewing how to deliver the best product to the citizens of this
state.
As information is available, this website will be updated.
What is the Call-for-Projects Process?
This is the method established by the North Carolina Department of Transportation whereby North Carolina citizens and communities compete for funds in twelve federally authorized categories. Funds are awarded to sponsors throughout the state who are responsible for project implementation, completion, and maintenance.
When does the Call occur?
Previously, the Call process has taken place on even numbered years or as specified by the Secretary of Transportation. The next Call has not been scheduled yet.
How are funds allocated to each region?
Funds are allocated based on an equity formula approved by the Board of Transportation. The formula is applied at the county level and aggregated to the regional level.
The formula:
- 1/2 - equity
- 1/4 - population
- 1/4 - the number of municipal governments
How much funding is available for the Call?
Available fund amount varies. In previous Calls, the funds available ranged from $10 million to $22 million.
What happens after the Announcement of the Project Awards?
The Call process ends at this point and the Agreement preparation and project execution phases begin. All applicants are notified of the Board's funding decision.
