Program Development: Context Sensitive Solutions Training: "A Better Way" Registration Procedure for 2006 Training
|
 |
Local Government, MPO/RPO, Resource Agencies and ACEC/NC member companies have been invited to attend NCDOT's training sessions shown above. NCDOT has embarked on a major change in its approach in dealing with human and natural environment issues during the planning, designing, building, and maintaining the State's transportation systems. The concept, called "Context Sensitive Solutions" (CSS) is currently being presented to a wide range of the Department's employees.
The seminar is an intense three days of presentations, case study group exercises and participant interaction that focus on planning, environmental, design, construction and maintenance issues during the development of highway projects. Stakeholder involvement, project purpose and need, communicating with the public, roadway design flexibility, aesthetics and managing liability are some of the major topics discussed and addressed in the course exercises. The guiding principles of CSS are to produce solutions that address the transportation need, be an asset to the local community, and be compatible with the natural and human environmental communities.
Limited seating: The 3-day class will accommodate a total of 40 students per session and NCDOT is currently providing several openings for attendees outside NCDOT during each session. Seating in the course is on a first come first serve basis. Seats can be held with receipt of the registration form. The training is facilitated by the Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE). Course materials, lunches, and light snacks are provided.
Cost: Cost for the 3-day event is $375 per attendee. Please send checks payable at least 2 weeks in advance to: The Institute for Transportation Research and Education (or ITRE) and mailed to Mr. Ehren Meister at the address below.
