News & Updates:NCDOT recently completed the Record of Decision document, which completes the planning work for the project. A Design Public/ Corridor Protection Hearing will be held in the Fall of 2008; at the hearing, the public will have the opportunity to learn more about the project, view project maps, and discuss the project with representatives of the study team. More information about the hearing will be announced in the coming weeks by newsletter and on this website. The project is included in the 2009-2015 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) as TIP Project No. R-2250. Right-of-way acquisition is scheduled to begin in 2009; construction of the project is currently unfunded. Why is this project necessary? The purpose of the project is to improve traffic flow and congestion on Memorial Drive (NC 11) and Stantonsburg Road (US 264 Business) within the project area; relieve congestion on NC 11 in Greenville, thereby improving safety and reducing the potential for accidents; and improve regional travel along the US 264/NC 11 corridor. Project Highlights:Key MilestonesIn November 2006, the project Merger Team selected Alternative 4-EXT as the Preferred Alternative for the project. In June 2007, the project Merger Team decided to remove the proposed interchange at NC 903 in order to minimize impacts to the Renston Rural Historic District. NCDOT has also recently completed the project's Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS), which details all work done to date as well as the selection of the preferred alternative. NCDOT then finalized this selection in the project’s Record of Decision (ROD), completed in August 2008. The Final Environmental Impact Statement can be found here.
