Be Safe Share the Space
In 2006, there were a total of 30,519 commercial motor vehicle crashes in North Carolina resulting in more than 160 fatalities. While commercial motor vehicle crashes represented only eight percent of all crashes in North Carolina last year, they accounted for 16 percent of all fatalities, which indicates how violent and fatal crashes can be when a large truck is involved.
Be Safe Share the Space focuses on addressing the increasing problem of crashes with property damage, injury and or fatalities involving large commercial vehicles on North Carolina roads. The initiative also aims to promote better safety practices among truckers and encourage regulatory compliance, as well as increase the public's awareness about the importance of safely sharing the road with large commercial vehicles.
The Governor's Highway Safety Program has partnered with the N.C. State Highway Patrol Motor Carrier Enforcement Division, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and the N.C. Trucking Association for the implementation of this initiative.
More information for available for trucking companies and drivers is available at nctrucking.com.
